Boxes of Kubrick

This is a really fun documentary. What I found most interesting were the glimpses of Kubrick directing. Particularly when he is directing full metal jacket. He is explaining the importance of the crotch grab to the timing of the sound-off, recognizes it is kind of a silly thing to be demanding to the actors, but doesn't back off. It is reassuring to see someone so sure of being unconventional. That whole surreal sequence of full metal jacket is of course a kind of poetic mockery which is probably more instructive about the perils of dogmatic institutional following than a straight portrayal.
