Movie Review - Jumper
Suspension of disbelief was hard to get going and maintain for this movie. There is a fun premise - what if you could teleport yourself anywhere on the planet, anytime, as often as you fancy. There is a subspecies of humans, called Jumpers, who have this ability and, naturally, a dedicated and well financed group bent on hunting and murdering the jumpers. Perhaps the group dedicated to hunting them actually are all parents of the Jumpers, a point I thought was left unclear by the film. In any event why there would be the need to hunt the Jumpers was never explained... well it was but with the paper thin justification "they are an abomination, only god should have the power of teleportation". That didn't make sense because this would at least be the subject of debate, i.e. are GMO foods morally ok, but more pressing than that is how the hell was the group of hunters financed and sustained apparently since the days of the inquisition. (That reference to the inquisition really being about hunting jumpers was ridiculous, in a comic book aimed at a 12 year old maybe that would seem cool but it just seemed preposterous).
