I have some mild skepticism about the unchecked love Obama has been receiving, although I will for sure support him in the general election if he's the Democratic nominee. That said I give him credit for hitting the right note in this response to McCain mocking his Iraq comments.
However, what to do about Iraq remains a grave issue with no good resolution. On balance I think getting out is worth it, unless full scale genocide ensues and I think that's unlikely. No doubt some tyrannical theocracy-driven rule would follow but an argument I found persuasive is Ron Paul's position that the US should get out of the business of policing the world. For instance, in Japan, get the heck out. The Japanese self-defence forces can step up to the plate (a nice side effect of which is that it would solve the perennial problem of US soldiers raping Japanese women in Okinawa). There is a role for a military but scaling it back from permanent deployments abroad is wise.
