Obama is White enough not the other way around

Sometimes its been said there were questions of whether Barack Obama was black enough but that's not really the question, at least not the way it appears at first glance. It is thoroughly messed up that having one black parent and one white parent, (apart from one NYTimes article that called him biracial), he is deemed black. That is messed up because it implies that to be white one must be pure. If someone is slightly off-white, despite having a white parent, then they are out of the race. If someone has a black parent, and a parent of a different race, then they are black. That double standard doesn't work for me.

This brings me to my second point which is that the key to Barack Obama is not that he's black enough; it is that he's white enough. If the puritan approach to whiteness is presumed then he is not white, but white people can assuage their guilt by calling him black while being simultaneously and secretly comforted that he's not black black.
