Within the past week I saw for the first time Thomas Mulcair being interviewed. I was impressed. Not least because the interviewer, Jane Taber, creates the impression she is biased - a week earlier she prefaced a question saying the NDP position was "ridiculous" - talk about removing even the pretense of impartiality. Anyways Mulcair adroitly answered her questions and effectively articulated his party's position in the process.
I also watched the most recent Republican debate and was most impressed with Mike Huckabee. He has come on strong, quite the ascendancy from his first appearance on the Colbert Report. I admire his style and he had close to perfect pitch in his responses in the debate. In other words if we have to have an anti-abortion pro-death penalty Republican nominee - he seems at least friendly and thoughtful - not brash like Romney and Giuliani. However I only today learned of his Willie Horton - as soon as I read the headline I thought Willie Horton, and apparently that's what other bloggers are calling it. I'm not sure if this will sink him but it's a tough issue.
